The Best Instructor

I've been doing Katie's classes twice a week for 2.5 years & I absolutely love it! I used to think I hated pilates but turns out I just went to a bad instructor because it's now my favourite form of exercise.

Improved My Performance

She gives clear, precise instruction & there's a lot of attention to detail. Each session targets a wide variety of muscle groups, creating a really well-rounded workout.

Why people book

Taught by Katie, tailored to you.

Katie teaches most of the timetable

Kore By Kate is named after Katie Calderbank, and she takes the large majority of the classes herself. Read the reviews and they are about her, not about the room.

Tailored, class by class

Modifications for beginners, progressions if you want a greater challenge. It is the same class either way, adjusted to what you can do that day.

Small props, no machines

Bodyweight work plus resistance bands, small Pilates balls and super-light hand weights. Nothing to learn to drive, and all equipment is provided.

Classes from £6

Pay as you go at £6 a class, or from £20 a month if you want a routine. Every price is published, there is nothing to enquire about.

New to this?

What is mat Pilates?

The short version, in plain English, before you look at the timetable.

  • The original floor method

Joseph Pilates' method done on a mat rather than a machine: controlled, core-led movement using your own bodyweight. No reformers here, and nothing you need to know how to operate.

  • Slow and controlled, not breathless

Slow, controlled movements combined with mindful breathing, working through every muscle group in turn. One member describes the transitions between exercises as seamless.

  • What the small props do

Resistance bands add gentle resistance, small Pilates balls target core stability and posture, light hand weights raise the intensity a little. All of it is provided, and none of it is heavy.

  • You do not need to be flexible first

Modifications are provided for beginners and progressions for anyone wanting a greater challenge, so everyone works at their own pace. You do not need to be fit, or to have done it before.

Mat Pilates or reformer Pilates: what's the difference?

Reformer Pilates uses a sprung carriage that adds resistance and support to each movement. Mat Pilates is the same method on the floor, using your own bodyweight plus small props, so there is no equipment to learn and no setup between exercises. Every class at Kore By Kate is mat Pilates.

The timetable

One class. Pick your time.

Every session on the timetable is the same Mat Pilates class, taught for all levels. The only thing that changes is when you come.

Early mornings

07:00 starts.

For people who would rather have it done before the day begins. Same class, same all-levels teaching, just earlier.

Weekend mornings

10:00, Saturday and Sunday.

The unhurried one. A late-ish start, no rush afterwards, and the slot that tends to go first.

Weekday evenings

17:30, 19:00 and 20:00.

Straight from work, or later once the house is quiet. Three evening starts to choose from.

Candlelight Core & Soundbath

An evening event, £20 per person.

A candlelit core class followed by a soundbath with sound healer Hayley, run on the same studio floor with a gong and crystal singing bowls. Booked separately from the regular timetable.

Katie Calderbank

Certified Pilates Instructor · Several years teaching Pilates

Katie teaches slow, controlled movement with mindful breathing, working through every muscle group rather than chasing intensity. Her classes run on bodyweight plus small props: resistance bands, soft balls and super-light hand weights.

Whether you are completely new to Pilates or a seasoned mover, she tailors each class to what you can do that day, with modifications for beginners and progressions for anyone who wants more. One member has been in her classes twice a week for two and a half years and calls her the best instructor she has found.

My aim is to create a welcoming space where you can build strength, improve flexibility, and enhance your mind-body connection at your own pace.

A member's story

I used to think I hated Pilates

Viv used to think she hated Pilates. It turned out she had just been to a bad instructor, and it is now her favourite form of exercise.

When she wrote this in August 2025 she had been coming to Katie's classes twice a week for two and a half years, and she put major changes in her strength, flexibility and physique down to that time.

I've also been to tons of other pilates classes since getting into it & Katie is by far the best instructor.
